Energy farm
This interactive online game from Siemens introduces students to the opportunities and challenges presented by different energy technologies. Students are required to implement an energy system that meets the demand to run a farm whilst minimising the cost and environmental impact.
The first stage of the game is to design the energy system with 20 tokens which they can spend on electricity bought from the grid, stored electricity, and generation of electricity on site. Once the system has been set up students have the opportunity to test their system over a seven day period with varying weather conditions which are generated automatically. This produces a graphical display for students to analyse and evaluate. Finally, students can refine their system to improve its performance.
The activity is supported by teacher guidance, a powerpoint and student worksheet.
