Why World Space Week is the perfect time to talk Tim Peake

In the playground the other day I got talking about Tim Peake and his exciting mission to the International Space Station. The parents I was talking to replied ‘Who’s Tim Peake?’

“Who’s Tim Peake?!”, I echoed,

“Only the first British astronaut for over 20 years!” I was a bit overly excited…

Of course Tim is not the first Briton in Space; Helen Sharman became the first Briton in space and the first woman to visit the Mir space station in 1991, but for the first time ever a British European Space Agency astronaut is going to live and work on the International Space Station. He is set to go on 15 December 2015 and will orbit the Earth for half a year, carrying out research work on board. Tim is very interested in using his mission to help excite children about STEM subjects and careers. In this video he invites children and teachers to get involved.

Tim’s mission is perfect for any schools organising a STEM/Science/Space week. It is an exciting high profile event, which will help to inspire a generation and frankly I can’t think of a subject taught in primary school that you couldn’t base around the theme of space! Don’t forget the most important reason… Kids love space - it’s exciting!

World Space Week is certainly a must in primary schools this year and with so much support available why not get involved?

If you would like more ideas on what you can do for Space Week, why not read our ‘Ten things to do during World Space week’

You can also visit the Esero-UK Tim Peake Page for further resources for all ages, updates on Tim’s mission and details of events happening around the country closer to the launch date. If you are inspired by Tim’s Mission then sign up your school to the Tim Peake Primary Project 2015/2016 and work with one of our dedicated Space Ambassadors.

The link to ten things to do during world space week doesn't appear to be working. Any ideas?
