Data handling - stock control
This task is a real-world example of how spreadsheets can be utilised effectively to simplify data handling and calculation tasks.
Pupils are provided with information about the numbers of items in stock in a warehouse and the weekly sales of the items over a month. This task requires pupils to add the stock levels and sales data to the spreadsheet. Using the spreadsheet pupils have to calculate the stock left at the end of each week and the total monthly sales for each item by creating the appropriate formula and add conditional formatting to show when stock needs to be re-ordered. They are then required to create a line graph for each item to show the changes in stock over the month.
The activity includes:
- teacher notes
- adaptable presentation
- adaptable student activity sheet
- student blank spreadsheet with data labels added to provide support if needed
- suggested solutions
- exemplar solution spreadsheet
