Having a good understanding of student prior learning, preconceptions and misconceptions is a strong starting point for ensuring rapid progress and maximising achievement. Strategies, approaches and resources that allow teachers to identify student starting points are powerful tools in a teacher’s toolkit. In this CPD we will explore tried and tested strategies that are research informed, straightforward to implement and free to access.

Participants will have an opportunity to

  • Explore an easy to use approach for eliciting prior knowledge and understanding and identify misconceptions
  • Further their understanding of the research underpinning this approach
  • Consider how to extend this approach to support Yr6 – Y7 transition
