Mars Safari Education Pack

The Mars Safari Education Pack is designed to leave primary school children feeling like they’ve explored the Red Planet! Working in small groups, children design and build their own ExoMars rover, analyse ‘Martian’ soil samples, safely navigate the Rover across the surface of Mars and make a solar light that only comes on at night. It contains four activities, which can be done as standalone sessions, or be part of a wider project learning about the ExoMars rover. 

Activities are:

  • Life on Mars- find examples of things that are alive, once alive or never been alive and investigate signs of live in 3 ‘Martian’ soil samples
  • Make an ExoMars Rover-  work as a team of engineers to build, test and improve their own Mars rover.
  • PanCam Pathfinder- work in pairs to safely navigate the Rover across the surface of Mars, taking into account obstacles in the way. They provide information on what they see there to their partners. Modelling how the rover is remotely operated and sends data and back to Earth.
  • Solar Cells- work in teams to make a solar light that comes on at night and which signals when the ExoMars Rovers’ solar panels are too covered in Martian dust.
