Macronutrients and Micronutrients

In this lesson students learn that food is eaten and digested in the body to allow the absorption of energy and nutrients and there are two types of nutrients - macronutrients and micronutrients.

They explore the three types of carbohydrates: monosaccharides, disaccharides and polysaccharides, intrinsic and extrinsic sugars as well as the role of protein in the growth and maintenance of normal muscles. Students also learn about the difference between saturated and unsaturated fats and the role of vitamins, minerals and trace elements in supporting important processes in the body.
