Ageing Society: level 2

This resource forms part of the ageing society resources from the Grand Challenges resource collection.  The introductory video can be found here.

The ageing society – level 2 resource package consists of activities designed to run for around two to three hours which are broken up into separate practical activities. Students will explore in greater depth than level 1 the challenges society is facing with an ageing population. During the project, students will explore how the BBC Micro:Bit can be programmed to help facilitate humans doing more exercise, this will involve students developing a program for the BBC Micro:Bit.

This resource package is aimed towards 12-14 year olds.  The practical activities consist of:

Using a visual based programming language, students will develop a program that would allow the BBC Micro:Bit to work as a pedometer, encouraging users to monitor the amount of steps they walk per day. They will also use the visual based language to create a stop clock that could be used within exercise. Both exercises will develop student’s ability to program, focusing upon the programming techniques sequencing, selection and iteration.
