The Inspired Bus Company (11-14)

This resource from Siemens encourages students to explore the challenges facing bus designers when producing a bus for an urban environment and investigate how different solutions can be identified and evaluated. The video clip introduces the bus as something which is essential to a wide range of people and is a real benefit. It also indicates what it is like working in an urban environment and introduces the notion that the power system has been developed to reduce the environmental impact. Students are then challenged to identify the best fuel source for a bus, given the nature of the location and journey, by exploring the advantages and disadvantages of battery powered vehicles, fuels cells and diesel engines
