Assessing Pupils' Progress (APP) Focused Assessment Materials

These assessment materials from the National Strategies are based on the Assessing Pupils' Performance (APP) assessment criteria and organised in National Curriculum levels. There is a set of materials for each of levels four to eight. The focused assessment materials include for each assessment criterion: *Examples of what pupils should know and be able to do (which give a feel of how difficult the mathematics is intended to be.) These are not activities or examples that will enable an accurate assessment of work at this level. A broader range of evidence drawn from day-to-day teaching over a period of time would be required; this evidence is exemplified in the Standards files, which are provided as part of the Assessment Support Materials collection. *Some probing questions for teachers to use with students in lessons to initiate dialogue to help secure their assessment judgement.
