Integration 3: Differential Equations

The first of two RISP activities, Modelling the Spread of a Disease requires students to carry out a simulation of a disease spreading. Students carry out an experiment then pool their results to estimate the proportion of the population that will have caught the disease. The experiment is then modelled mathematically using differential equations.

How Many Differential Equations? asks students to write down a quadratic function, differentiate it twice and use the results to form a differential equation. Students then find the general solution of their differential equation.
