Environment Agency Collection

This collection of resources for primary and secondary aged pupils have been created to inspire pupils about topics linked to the work of the Environment Agency such as water, biodiversity and the impact of climate change.  They are designed to be delivered by a teacher and/or an Environment Agency STEM Ambassador, if one is available. They are an ideal opportunity to provide pupils with a wider context and application of their learning, whilst highlighting the roles available within the Environment Agency.

They include activities covering areas of the national curriculum which are relevant to the work of the Environment Agency such as the water cycle for primary aged pupils and how climate change is affecting flooding for secondary. The collection includes:

  • investigations like 'How much water do we waste?' which looks at how much water goes down the drain when pupils brush their teeth
  • hands on problem solving activities such as 'There will be rain'
  • group activities such as 'Who can save Stemville?' where pupils learn about the impact of climate change on flooding and evaluate flood management systems for the fictitious town of Stemville.

If an Environment Agency STEM Ambassador is able to visit a school, separate guidance notes are provided in all the resources to give advice on how to run the activities and appropriate language to use with pupils.
