Environment Agency - Secondary - Biodiversity
This series of resources has been created for use by teachers and/or Environment Agency STEM Ambassadors to teach pupils about the importance of biodiversity for all living creatures including humans and how high biodiversity can mitigate some of the consequences of climate change. They also highlight the role of the Environment Agency in increasing biodiversity and the career opportunities available within the organisation.
Both resources contain a group work activity looking at the methods that can be used to improve biodiversity. 'Should we rewild Britain ' is a role play activity which considers the views of various stakeholders both 'for' and 'against' rewilding. 'How can Stemville improve its biodiversity?' asks pupils to evaluate and select different biodiversity improvement methods to increase the biodiversity of the fictitious town of Stemville.
The resources have been designed to be delivered by a teacher and/or an Environment Agency STEM Ambassador if one is available. If an Environment Agency STEM Ambassador is able to visit a school, separate guidance notes are provided to give advice on how to run the activities and appropriate language to use.
