Centre for Industry Education Collaboration (CIEC): Primary School Resources
The Centre for Industry Education Collaboration (CIEC) has a long history of producing science education resources that look at how science is applied in real-life contexts. The resources in this collection allow children to gain investigative skills, understand scientific concepts and also enjoy group work. The materials contain extensive teacher guidance, background information and chidren's activity sheets. The materials are also suitable for developing links with local science-based companies as they illustrate how classroom science can be applied in a range of industrial contexts.
The activities cover a wide range of curriculum science and technology. They help to:
- enhance teaching of science and technology
- engage children by placing investigations in meaningful contexts
- help teachers and local industry to gain a better understanding of each others' work
- show the role played by science-based industry in society
A special issue of the Association of Science Education's Primary Science journal containing articles written by the CIEC team, highlights the importance of working across the boundaries between education and industry to provide pupils with a better understanding of the application of science in the real world.
This resource was funded by the UK Space Agency and developed by ESERO-UK and CIEC Promoting Science. It is based upon the quest to discover more about the solar system through space projects such as the European Space Agency’s Aurora programme, and NASA’s Curiosity mission seeking to gather evidence of life on the...
Produced by The Centre for Industry Education Collaboration (CIEC), these materials put curriculum science in a real-life context. The activities are based on the development of a new cough syrup.
Children identify the best conditions for growing micro-organisms to produce the active ingredient in the cough...
These The Centre for Industry Education Collaboration (CIEC) resources look at forces in real-life contexts. Students have an opportunity to learn about the properties of air and air resistance.
The context is that of a transport company looking for ways to reduce the drag of their lorries and so improve...
These resources are produced by The Centre for Industry Education Collaboration (CIEC) and are designed to illustrate the value and benefits of agricultural science to the community.
Materials involve students in a range of active learning, developed from real life contexts or 'stories' taken from the...
