What is the Science Technicians Skills Pathway?
a programme of technical skills which science technicians can accomplish through cpd
it is recognition of skills achieved
it will ensure that technicians will be able to prepare a high degree of practicals which students can learn, enjoy, and continue to study science for the future
Technical staff are paramount in any practical lesson in school. The Good Practical Science report https://www.stem.org.uk/good-practical-science
Once a technician has completed a total of 10 different courses, they will receive a specially design STEM e-badge
Pathway levels

Pathway one
This Pathway is for science technicians who are new to the post and who want to learn the very basic skills for initially supporting teachers in their department. It also helps with any technician who is going through the apprenticeship route of this post.
Through STEM Learning at York and your local STEM Network.
Through STEM Learning and the Network you can achieve this level by completing any one of the courses below.
Pathway one CPD at the National STEM Learning Centre
Pathway one CPD from your local network provider

Pathway two
After completing Pathway 1, a technician can progress into Pathway 2 which concentrates on a higher level of skills knowledge. These courses are centred around individual science subjects and skills.

Experience a wide range of physics equipment which will enable you to support teachers and create impactful science lessons.

Pathway three
In this pathway an experience, skilled technician can aim at a managerial role within the science department therefore a new set of skills are needed.
Offered in this Pathway are a number of specific courses which are run throughout the Network which can help with a technician completing a complete range of skills
