Animal classes - EAL

This resource uses an information exchange (also known as a 'jigsaw activity') to improve pupils' reading skills and teach them facts about the 5 animal classes.  Initially pupils' reading skills are developed by working collaboratively in groups to read a simple text and extract all the relevant information onto a concept map about one of the animal classes. The groups are then re-arranged to include one person from each of the original groups and then they have to sort given pictures of animals into the various classes.  There is a comprehensive set of teaching notes which includes all the worksheets and pictures required.
