Classifying materials

These diagnostic questions and response activities (contained in the zip file) support students in being able to:

  • Use properties to identify that an object is made of metal.

  • Use properties to identify that an object is made off a ceramic.

  • Recognise that polymers can have differences in their properties.

  • Use mechanical properties to distinguish a ceramic from a polymer.

  • Use physical properties to distinguish a metal from a polymer.

The resources include details of common misconceptions and a summary of the research upon which the resources are based.
