Fun with Maths

This programme from Teachers TV shows how teaching assistants at one primary school are supporting mathematics both in and out of the classroom. The teaching assistants at Glenbrook Primary School have developed games and activities to help teach mathematics and engage children who need extra support.

Sue's card game reinforces some essential basic skills for "counting-on" and "change from a pound" exercises. June uses roamers to do some work with angles, distance and estimation in a creative way. Playground and wet play games have been adapted by Elaine to include a mathematical focus so children are using their mathematical skills in their everyday lives as well as in the classroom. Sophie has helped create engaging mathematics displays around the school as well as using craft activities in the class to help with times tables.
