Cosmic Rays: Mysterious Extraterrestrial Visitors

Produced by the Science and Technology Facilities Council (STFC), Cosmic Rays is a colour A5 leaflet that opens out into an A2 double-sided wallchart describing cosmic rays and where they come from, what effect they have on Earth and how they are used in scientific applications. Sections of the leaflet cover: *The discovery of cosmic rays *Detecting cosmic rays and gamma rays *Cosmic rays and us *Applications from cosmic-ray research *Make your own cosmic-ray detector *Gamma ray messengers *High-energy aliens *Some cosmic ray facts The leaflet is aimed at students aged from 14 upwards. It is accompanied by very useful teachers' notes which give suggestions for classroom activities and links to the curriculum. It also highlights universities which are actively promoting cosmic ray projects in schools. STFC is a part of the Research Councils UK (RCUK) partnership of research councils.
