Redshift
This Teaching Astronomy and Space video clip, from the Institute of Physics (IOP), Teachers TV and the Science and Technology Facilities Council (STFC), shows a simple demonstration that can be used to help students understand red shift and blue shift of waves emitted by a moving object. Using the school yard, students move as if they are light waves being emitted by a star. Observers can see the apparent 'wavelength' of this light. The observers note that when the star is moving, the apparent wavelength is shifted. This demonstrates red and blue shift. STFC is a part of the Research Councils UK (RCUK) partnership of research councils.
