Sensors

This multimedia package was developed by the Gatsby Science Enhancement Programme to support and extend the teaching of sensors to students aged 14-19. The development and use of sensors is a rapidly growing area. Students should already have some familiarity with sensors through their use in a classroom context in science, technology and geography, but may be less aware of ‘real life’ applications. This set of resources aims to help students understand what is ‘inside the black box’ and the underlying scientific principles. It looks at the ways in which sensors are used, why they are used, and the processes by which they are developed.

The resource consists of the following sections:

  • Thermal Sensors
  • Light Sensors
  • Sound Sensors
  • Force Sensors
  • Flow Rate Sensors
  • Positional Sensors
  • Using Potential Dividers The CD-ROM version of these resources can be purchased from Mindsets.
