Teaching Mental Maths From Level Five: Measures and Mensuration in Number

This National Strategies booklet describing teaching approaches that can be used to develop mental mathematics abilities beyond National Curriculum level five. The activities described build on and develop activities suggested in Teaching mental mathematics from level five: number.

The resource includes activities that target some aspects which students find difficult. They will support students' thinking by, for example, encouraging them to recall the common conversions from one metric unit to another, to use consistent units in calculations and read scales carefully and not to assume that each division represents a multiple of 10.
