This sub-collection of resources from the ‘Something in Common’ collection contains 22 resources designed to bring a problem solving approach to the teaching of geometry at Key Stages 3 and 4. Each resource has an introductory presentation, printed materials, and additionally many have supporting files in either Excel or Geogebra format. The topics covered are:

  • Sine Rule

  • Cosine Rule

  • Area of a circle

  • Area of a kite

Pick a Polygon

A square-based dotted grid is given. An initial investigation involved drawing triangles on the grid and determining the area, number of dots on the perimeter, and number of dots enclosed by...

Sea Shell Product

A unit circle is marked off in equal arc lengths. The resulting points are joined back to a single point. The challenge is to find the products of the lengths of the chords drawn in each circle...

Squaring the rectangle

On the left, a rectangle is given and the challenge is to construct a square to the right of it that has an equal area and sharing a common vertex with the rectangle. The construction must be...

How Many Sides

A section of a regular polygon is shown with diagonals drawn from a hidden vertex. The angle between two diagonals their corresponding sides are given. The challenge is to work out how many...
