CREST Awards Through Work Experience
This case study describes how BP used CREST awards to enhance their provision of work experience.
Students at BP worked on a research project for their work experience week. This involved around 30 hours of work. At the end of their placement, students presented their research findings and what they had learned from the experience. This model has had a positive impact on both the students and BP employees involved in the work experience programme.
CREST Awards Through Project-based Learning
This case study describes how Charlton School gave Year Eight students a chance to undertake independent projects based on their individual enthusiasms.
Students worked towards a bronze CREST award and undertook a wide range of independent activities. These included a team who made a video documentary to explain the process of coastal erosion. The projects helped students develop communication skills, team working and encouraged cross-curricular collaboration.
CREST Awards Through Industry-linked Projects
This case study describes how Queen Katherine's school science club have become involved with a local engineering company.
The company supports the club by involving them in research and innovative STEM-based projects, working on awards at CREST bronze and gold level.
CREST and School-Company Relationships
This case study describes how Stroud High School have incorporated CREST Awards into their work with local specialist companies with the support of their local CREST Co-ordinator.
Teachers at the school now work with a range of external professionals and organisations to make STEM subjects both exciting and relevant to their students.
CREST in a Day
This case study describes how Rickmansworth School used a CREST activity day to engage and enthuse students in STEM subjects.
A total of 34 students participated in three different activities solving engineering problems, developing team skills and working to deadlines. A CREST assessor was involved and at the end of the day, 28 students achieved the bronze award

CREST Awards: Project Ideas
This is a series of project ideas that can be used to gain CREST Awards. They look at the application of STEM in areas such as sports equipment, sustainable transport and cleaning technology. Bronze awards are suitable for students at Key Stage Three, whilst gold awards offer extended and independnet work for post-16 students.
STEM Projects Toolkit
The STEM Projects Toolkit provides resources to help teachers to carry out enquiry-based project work with their students. The resource pack was developed in order to give students hands-on experiences of science and engineering. It is hoped that using scientific methods, the design processes in engineering, and being given the freedom to choose topics, questions or briefs would encourage students to consider careers in STEM subjects.
