Working in Science Communication

In this Catalyst article, six people whose work can be described as ‘communicating science’ reveal the great variety of career paths in this area.

  • Alex Tate is a Producer/Director for Windfall Films. He produces and directs science and natural history documentaries.
  • Dr Sai Pathmanathan is a Science Education Consultant with a focus on entertainment media. In her role he does a range of things, from running workshops at educational roadshows to researching and creating new educational games and media.
  • Toby Shannon is a Science in Society Officer at the British Science Association. He works on many different, exciting projects with scientists and engineers to get them engaged with the public.
  • Alexis Mannion is an Education and Outreach Manager at the Francis Crick Institute. Her work involves creating science education opportunities for diverse audiences - from local schools and community groups to internationally acclaimed scientists.
  • Kamini Plaha is a Science Educator at the Natural History Museum. She delivers workshops and shows around the museum for families and schools.
  • Rohan Mehra is an Exhibition Content Developer at the Science Museum. He produces exhibitions, displays and events for the museum to engage and enthuse visitors.
