Shape and Space

From the series Great Lesson Ideas, this Teachers TV video looks at games and activities used in two primary schools to develop student’s understanding of shape and space. At Cuffley School, Hertfordshire, students in Year Two and Year Three explore the characteristics of different shapes using pieces of elastic. Year Three students draw on their geometrical knowledge to construct 3D shapes from 2D diagrams using drinking straws and modelling dough. In the plenary, the students play a game where they listen to the properties of a shape being described and then guess which shape it is. At Wroxham School, Hertfordshire, Year One students go on a shape hunt and discover many geometric shapes throughout their school.
