Join UK-leading organisation Babraham Institute for a placement where you can immerse yourself in the world of STEM outside of the classroom.

5 day placements are available with the Babraham Institute throughout the year (term time and holidays), supported by £1000 of ENTHUSE bursary funding.
Next available placements will take place October/November 2018 (Dates to be confirmed)
The final part of the scheme is a one-day professional development experience in London held 4 to 6 months after your placement.
This opportunity is suitable for STEM teaching professionals and/or professionals with additional responsibility for careers.

Going on a placement at the Babraham Institute will help you to:
Inspire your students – Gain an insight into the work undertaken by the Institute’s cutting edge laboratories including: signalling, epigenetics, immunology and nuclear dynamics. Meet with the STEM professionals working within this industry, learn about their roles, experiences and the skills needed to do their job. Understand about the future employment opportunities and what the science industry can offer your students.
Build strong links with a local employer – connect with a local employer to develop staff and student experiences, with the aim of creating a longer term partnership. Help to boost your students’ confidence in making career choices and support the development of their employability skills. Gain ideas for future collaboration (e.g. work experience, mentoring, speakers).

The Babraham Institute is a world-class research institution, situated at the heart of the Babraham Research Campus, which is also home to 60 small to medium sized biotechnology companies. The Institute carries out research on the molecular mechanisms that underlie normal cellular processes and functions, with a particular focus on the process of ageing.
The Institute’s research is supported by strategic funding from the Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council and is split into four strategic research programmes:
• Immunology: The study of the immune system
• Nuclear Dynamics: How DNA is packaged in our cells
• Epigenetics: The study of modifications to our DNA
• Signalling: Within and between cells
There are over 300 staff at the Babraham Institute, just under 70% of those work in scientific roles as research group leaders, post doctorial researchers, PhD students and scientific facility staff. Additionally the Institute has a number of engineers, a computing team, nursery staff and administrators who support the Institute’s scientific staff and maintain the Babraham Research Campus.
