Chemistry for non-specialists NY322 / A23
Summary
Designed to provide teachers with the knowledge of core concepts at KS3 and KS4. This course is for science teachers who are not chemistry specialists or those who need to build their confidence in teaching chemistry.
We will cover a wide range of topics in theoretical and practical chemistry, developing the substantive and disciplinary knowledge underlying these.
We will also support teachers in challenging both students, and their own, misconceptions in chemistry.

During the course we will cover:
- electrolysis
- chemical reactions
- moles and titrations
- rates of reaction
- acids and bases
- models and misconceptions
- chemistry required practicals
- organic chemistry

This course will be delivered face to face

This is a four day intensive course.

Outcomes
You will have:
- increased understanding of chemistry topics at KS3 and KS4
- become more confident and competent in the teaching of chemistry
- developed an understanding of common students misconceptions and how these can addressed
