Summary

This session will look at the 6 strategies of learning including spacing, interleaving, dual coding and retrieval.  The presentation will focus on the strategies that science teachers can use to ensure students are better placed at grasping the heavy content of the science curriculum.  Examples of scaffolding to support learning, revision mats and reflection activities will be given.  A dicussion of the different questioning techniques that can be used in the classroom to stretch and challenge all students.

Outcomes

 

  • You will gain a knowledge of what the new framework and the "deep dives" will look like in your own school setting
  • Develop an awareness of effective strategies to support the new framework with colleagues in outreach work
  • Opportunity to network with colleagues in a similar role across both primary and secondary phases
  • We will also have the opportunity to discuss the challenges of being a science SLE trying to support collegues during the pandemic
