Develop your subject knowledge of chemistry within the primary curriculum from year 1 to year 6. Discover why chemistry is essential for gaining an understanding of the world and how we can set strong foundations for this in primary schools. Through this course you will explore a range of engaging, practical strategies to deliver chemistry and discover how to tackle children's misconceptions. You will also learn how to develop and embed a progressive curriculum for chemistry in your school.
Who is it for?Primary science leaders and teachers.What topics are covered?This two day course covers:
⚪ the primary chemistry national curriculum - we will explore the themes which run within the curriculum and the progression between year groups
⚪ subject knowledge and practical ideas to teach: materials and their properties
⚪ subject knowledge and practical ideas to teach: rocks and fossils
⚪ subject knowledge and practical ideas to teach: states of matter
⚪ subject knowledge and practical ideas to teach: changes of materials
⚪ children's misconceptions and how to tackle them
