Robot Swarms
Together with related activities from the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET), this resource allows students to investigate the wide range of sophisticated imaging technology available in modern hospitals, and to explore the latest ideas in search-and-rescue robotics.
Students work in small teams to create a set of simple rules which can be used to control a robot swarm designed to help in search-and-rescue type scenarios such as earthquakes. The 'Robot Swarms' student brief sets the scene. The activity allows students to:
* appreciate how a set of simple rules applied to large numbers of relatively simple robots can create complex behaviour
* understand that signals in the form of waveforms can be used to communicate with and between robots
The activity is supported by other resources in the Brainwaves collection which look at signals and imaging in healthcare, and the videos Mind mapping and Mind Control.
