This lesson will build on the idea of collecting data over time, and introduce pupils to the idea of collecting data automatically using computers. Computers can capture data from the physical world using input devices called ‘sensors’. Sensors can be connected to data loggers, which can collect data while not attached to a computer. Data collected by a data logger can be downloaded for use later.

Learning objectives

  • To use a digital device to collect data automatically
  • I can explain that sensors are input devices
  • I can use data from a sensor to answer a given question
  • I can identify that data from sensors can be recorded
