Slugs

This rich data set includes several species of slugs, and can be used to investigate their distribution across the UK. The data has been collected over a period of several years, and includes the maturity of each slug and its location.

The data is biased in terms of the date and locations for sampling – a useful learning point for young people working with data.

Achievable research questions, that can be answered with the data, are included in the teacher guidance. No guidance on the analysis methods is provided, so this resource is recommended for teachers with some confidence in data manipulation including geographical data. The data manipulation can be carried out using Excel or other appropriate software.
