Water wheel construction
This resource from the IET Faraday programme, supported by MEI and Tomorrow's Engineers, looks at the trigonometry and scale drawing involved in the construction of water wheels.
"A water wheel is a machine for converting the energy of flowing or falling water into useful forms of power, often in a watermill. A water wheel consists of a wheel with a number of blades or buckets arranged on the outside rim forming the driving surface."
The resource includes a presentation that introduces key ideas and a series of questions for students to explore. The activity overview includes classroom notes, discussion points, extension activity suggestions, answers and details of the curriculum content covered.
