Pie Charts

The first sheet of this excel file shows a frequency table for up to four different colours. Sometimes the angle 359⁰ or 361⁰ is shown in the table rather than 360⁰ and this can be used to aid discussion about rounding. Students need to calculate the angles so that a pie chart can be drawn. The pie chart can be shown onscreen.

The second sheet is intended to be duplicated to allow students to measure angles and use those to answer questions.

The next three sheets have fixed values. In each sheet a frequency table relating to a survey is shown and the angles can be revealed. The aim is to get students to calculate the frequency relating to each of the given angles and hence find the total number of people surveyed.

The final interactive sheet shows the results of a survey expressed as percentages. Students need to calculate the angles in order to draw a pie chart.

There are seven more sheets of questions which may be suitable for use in the classroom.
