Algebra

The Connect 4 activity requires students to choose a question and use their skill of expanding brackets and simplifying expressions to answer the question. Player one answers their question then finds, and shades in with one colour, the answer on the answer grid. Player two then takes their turn, shading their answer using a different colour. The winner is the first player to get four shaded answers in a row. Questions include expanding a single bracket with a number outside and expanding two brackets each with a number outside and simplifying. Students are also required to use directed numbers correctly.

Top Trumps: This activity requires students to be able to solve one-step and two-step equations, and could be used to solve equations involving brackets. The resource contains three sets of cards in increasing levels of difficulty. Each card contains a set of numbers with four categories: stealth, power, speed, strength. To find the value of each category students solve the given equation. The resource contains teacher notes with suggestions as to how the cards may be used.
