Reactions of the Alkali Metals
In this classic demonstration, from the Royal Society of Chemistry, the reactions of lithium, sodium and potassium are demonstrated by reacting with water and chlorine. The physical properties of these metals are also demonstrated.
The resource provides a list of apparatus and chemicals needed for the experiment, together with teaching tips.
Curriculum links include: alkali metals, group 1, periodic table, periodicity, trends in reactivity.
