Listening to Sounds

This short programme from Teachers TV is suitable for Year One children. It shows an array of images and their accompanying sounds, for children to learn and recognise the associations. The sounds include a doorbell, car horn, opening a can of drink, sawing a log, drilling a hole and cracking walnuts.

The clip could be played again with just sound and children given the opportunity to match sounds to their sources. This exercise encourages primary children to think about their auditory surroundings. At the end, there is a quiz featuring 10 mystery sounds, presenting the opportunity for children to guess what the sounds are.
