Listening to Sounds
What is sound (Ages 5-7)
Listening to sounds
This short programme shows an array of images and their accompanying sounds, for children to learn and recognise the associations. You could play the clip again with just sound and ask children to say what is making the sound. At the end, there is a quiz featuring 10 mystery sounds, presenting the opportunity for children to guess what the sounds are.

How we hear sound (Ages 7-9)
Musical Coat Hanger
Sound is produced when something vibrates, the vibrations travel through the air to our ears. Vibrations can also travel through solids, as demonstrated in the musical coat hanger activity in this resource. All you need is string, a metal coat hanger and a fork. is a fun way to demonstrate these vibrations.
