Primary: Useful Microbes

Produced by the Health Protection Agency, this e-Bug resource helps to show children some of the useful microbes. Extensive teacher guidance, stimulus materials and students' activity sheets help students to investigate the growth of yeast in the breadmaking process.

An alternative is the use of bacteria to produce yoghurt from milk.

Both activities allow students to see helpful uses of microbes and also investigate the conditions needed for their growth.
