Interactive Teaching Programs 4

Interactive Teaching Programs (ITPs) are an ICT-based tool developed by the National Strategies to support the teaching of key concepts in mathematics. Where available, manuals which describe how the ITP works and could be used are posted as separate files.

This section includes:

  • Number spinners: generates random numbers using ‘spinners’ with three, four, five or six sides.
  • Number facts: displays up to 20 coloured counters and the corresponding addition sentence. The number of counters selected, appear on the screen in purple.
  • Ordering numbers: shows how a number line can be developed from a row of 10, 20 or 100 counters. It behaves like a short film.
  • Place value: displays on-screen place value cards to construct and partition three-digit whole numbers.
  • Polygon: displays regular polygons with 3 to 10 sides. A background grid can be revealed and hidden and the displayed polygon can be enlarged using the pointers on the polygon button.
  • Ratio strips: gives a visual demonstration of ratio by using counters in two colours.
  • Ratio and proportion: uses colour mixing to visually demonstrate ratio and proportion.
  • Remainders after division: sets up an empty grid into which counters can be placed to demonstrate division.

The full Guide to the interactive teaching programs, including guidance for most interactive resources, is available below.

PLEASE NOTE: due to the age of these files some aspects of the programmes may no longer work on modern computers.
