Assessment for Learning (AfL) in A2 Biology

Produced by the Learning Skills Improvement Service (LSIS), this case study tackles the themes of progression through STEM and assessment for learning in A2 biology. By SRC Bede Sixth Form College, it describes how the following were investigated:
* Learners’ perceptions of the effectiveness of comment-only marking by teachers in terms of identifying areas for improvement.
* Learners’ perceptions of the difficulty and benefits of assessing the work of peers using comment-only marking.
* Learners’ perceptions of the effect of increased use of 'suggest' questions by teachers on learners’ confidence in answering exam questions.
* Learners’ perceptions of the value of a biology blog in encouraging them to ask for help.
* Impact of assessment for learning focus on performance in an external module exam in A2 biology.
