he Skills Builder Toolkit draws together the best thinking and experience around building essential skills from educators, employers and other skills-building organisations. It turns skills that can often seem hazy into a consistent set of eight transferable skills:
- Problem Solving
- Aiming High
- Staying Positive
Each skill is broken down into teachable, learnable and assessable chunks, putting them into an effective order to support progression throughout primary, secondary and post-16.

This pack from the Department for Education was developed for careers education and information, advice and guidance (IAG) practitioners to support their work in engaging tutors, subject teachers, personal and careers advisers in the business of STEM careers awareness.
The resources are designed to boost the confidence and readiness of front-line staff to engage with young people and their parents about STEM choices, and to give well-informed and up-to-date information on the current demand and likely trends in relation to STEM opportunities.
The STEM Careers Toolkits have been designed to provide:
- Evidence about the influential and key roles that teachers can have on their students’ career choices across all phases of education.
- Good practice tips and examples of how to successfully relate subject knowledge and the curriculum to careers choice and the labour market, directly linked to the National STEM Learning Centre’s resource collection, a bank of over 10,000 resources.
- Links to the key in-depth sources of information, from the UK’s four inspectorates’ guidance for schools to the most robust sources of labour market and careers information
This guide is for senior leaders and teachers in schools and colleges who would like to understand more about employer partnership. It looks at how to build a partnership with an employer, different levels of commitment that the partnership can take, how to develop a partnership enabled culture and provides top tips throughout on building your own effective employer partnership.
This STEM Learning resource collection aims to support STEM Ambassadors to highlight the top 10 employability skills to young people, with examples of activities and discussions to support young people to develop these skills in either school, college or other settings.
