Light
Using engineering to bring a lesson on light and colour to life and increase students awareness of the variety of engineering careers.
Lighting Designer *suitable for home teaching*
This is a great video to introduce a lesson on colour and light. Who wouldn't want to be an engineer after watching this?
Light 11-14
A whole set of resources from the Institute of Physics (IOP) on the topic of light, but for this lesson, you want the activities in the 'Colours of two kinds' sections.
You can find the activities in the Teaching Approaches section. The Physics Narrative section and the Teaching and Leaning notes will be particularly appreciated by those teaching outside of their specialism.
As you might expect from the IOP, this is a well thought out scheme which develops and challenges students' ideas as it is worked through.
Colour mixing
Such a great way to demonstrate colour light mixing. You could do the demo yourself, or show the students the film.
Do Try This at Home: the Light Collection *suitable for home teaching*
And for an exciting homework to further encourage those budding lighting engineers, these ideas are great fun! You could ask them to choose three to show someone in their family and then explain how it works to them.
