Nuffield Pathways Through Science: Chemistry Modules

The Nuffield Pathways Through Science course was developed to align with the very innovative and successful modular science course created by the Northern Examining and Assessment Board (NEAB now merged into AQA). There were three Chemistry modules:
*Materials – featuring features solutions and a variety of systems in which one material is finely dispersed in another (colloids) as well as the properties and uses of glass, ceramics, metals and polymers.
*Making Materials – covering structure, bonding, and an introduction to quantitative chemistry
*Chemicals – starts by exploring three questions related to chemical reactions: How much?, How fast? And How far? and goes on to show how a model of atomic structure can account for the periodic table.

Materials

This Nuffield Pathways Through Science module covered solutions and a variety of systems in which one material is finely dispersed in another (colloids) as well as the properties and uses of glass, ceramics, metals and polymers. The module provided opportunities to...

Making Materials

This Nuffield Pathways Through Science module covered structure, bonding, as well as an introduction to quantitative chemistry with calculations based on amounts in moles. The topic was presented in three episodes:
Mm 1: Plastics
Mm 2: Metals
Mm 3:...

Chemicals

This Nuffield Pathways Through Science module began by exploring three questions related to chemical reactions: How much?, How fast? And How far? and went on to show how a model of atomic structure can account for the periodic table. Applications of chemistry related to...
