Nuffield Maths: Bronto Books Set A

Nuffield Foundation provide these resources from the Nuffield Maths 5-11 project, which allow students the opportunity to practice using and reading simple mathematical vocabulary. They support, as well as extend, the basic mathematical concepts introduced to young children.

The image of Bronto at the foot of some pages provides elements of surprise, security and fun, as well as making comments that underline or extend the ideas illustrated on that page.

Round red apple - a simple story introduces the idea of roundness in shape and as movement.

Comparing with Bronto - comparative measurement is dealt with in a direct and simple way.

Counting Backwards- a number rhyme provides the framework for practice in counting backwards from 10.

Up and Down - are introduced in a very simple way with lots of repetition, pictures provide maximum help.

Poor Bronto - a simple story with lots of repetition that explores the mathematical ideas of; part of, missing and whole.

Counting with Bronto -- provides practice in one-to-one correspondence, in counting and recognition of numerals 1 to 10.
