Mathematics with Ten and Eleven Year Olds

This booklet, the Mathematics Centre at the University of Chichester, contains accounts of how some students aged ten and eleven became involved in starting to carry out some of their own mathematical explorations. The accounts focus on the first hour or so of five different sessions.

A range of examples of students' written work during that time is also included. All the explorations are based on some aspect of number.

Teachers are likely to find it most profitable to have a go at the starting points themselves before reading what happened with the particular group of children being discussed.
