Summary

Using the Olympics as your starting point offers such a rich base encompassing physics, chemistry and biology strands that run through the primary science curriculum.

As a theme, the Olympics, allows all year groups to link their science in a meaningful way. From exploring for example; how specific disciplines need different diets from the weight lifters, to the swimmers to the horses that take part; materials needed for equipment and outfits that the athletes use and wear; forces involved in the sports such as rowing, gymnastics and show jumping.

We will also spend some time looking at multidisciplinary links to other primary areas of the curriculum .

The session, although using the theme of the Olympics, will help you see the power of linking science to the world the children live in and show you ways to record and assess science creatively, that can be carried forward into other topics.

You will leave the session with lots of ideas of how to make science engaging whatever topic you are teaching and new ways   to teach cross curricular science.

Outcomes
