Summary

This workshop is part of a programme which introduces delegates to a range of practical strategies that they can take and use in their own settings for improving learning and progress of learners with special educational needs.  

Delegates attending this course will be enrolled in a private online community group for them to carry on the discussion and ask questions between workshops The workshops are aimed at adults who support learners in science lessons, both teachers and teaching assistants across all key stages. Workshops may also be of benefit to early career stage teachers who want to improve their teaching of learners with special educational needs.

Workshop 1: Introduction - Wednesday 1 December 2021 - An overview of the science curriculum and progression and moving students through the curriculum.

Workshop 2: Vocabulary - Tuesday 7 December 2021 - Improving language and oracy in science lessons

Workshop 3: Differentiation and scaffolding - Monday 13 December 2021 - How to meet the needs of all learners.

Workshop 4: Teaching resources - Wednesday 12 January 2022 - What works and how to make them better (including preventing cognitive overload). How to tackle misconceptions.

Workshop 5: Practical Work - Monday 17 January 2022 - Making it purposeful, making it better. Planning for behaviour in practical lessons.

Workshop 6: Specific SEND needs - Tuesday 25 January 2022 - Considering strategies to address identified SEND needs.
