Summary

This course will develop your own subject knowledge within the primary physics curriculum, and ensure you are able to support your pupils in developing their subject knowledge through practical exploration.

We will explore practical activities that support National Curriculum learning objectives in both physics subject knowledge and working scientifically. You will have time to reflect on activities and see where they fit into your school's curriculum. This will be a very hands on course with lots of ideas to take back and use in the classroom, for all children from year 1 to year 6.

Who is it for?

Primary school teachers looking to further develop their understanding of the physics curriculum.

What topics are covered?

This two day course covers:

  • ⚪   where physics fits into the National Curriculum at both key stage 1 and 2

⚪   forces and magnets; including gravity, air resistance, water resistance and friction

⚪   light; including shadows and colour. We will also look at how light is used and reflections

⚪   electricity: looking at circuits and problem solving within a real life context

⚪   earth and Space; this will include using space as a context for using across the curriculum

⚪   sound; how sound is produced, pitch, volume and recording sound. This session will also explore datalogging

⚪   enriching primary physics and including it at key stage 1
