Summary

Materials, rocks, changing state and much more are explored in this practical subject knowledge based course.

You will develop your subject knowledge of chemistry within the primary curriculum from Year 1 to Year 6.  Discover why chemistry is essential for gaining an understanding of the world and how we can set strong foundations for this in primary school.

Through this course you will explore a range of engaging, practical strategies to deliver chemistry and discover how to tackle children’s common misconceptions.  You will also learn how to develop and embed a progressive curriculum for chemistry in your school.

Outcomes

You will be able to:

  • Explore practical activities to teach chemistry and ensure progression of learning
  • Develop an understanding of chemistry in the primary science curriculum
  • Enhance your subject knowledge of the big ideas in chemistry
